Holly’s Won the "Award of Commission Capacity" and "Award of Top 10 Excellence" in the 2nd Qinghua Award

19 August 2017, the “4th Chinese Antiques and Artwork Auction International Forum” and “Chinese Antiques and Artwork Auction Ranking” were held by Culture & Artwork Auction Committee of CAA in Shanghai. Holly’s won both the "Award of Commission Capacity" and "Award of Top 10 Excellence".

"Qinghua Award" is the highest award in the field of antiques and artwork auction. It is one of the outstanding representatives and a model of Chinese antiques and artwork auction. This year, the "Qinghua Award" has issues 13 award categories, which were concluded from the 2016 national antiques and artwork auctions statistics by the Culture & Artwork Auction Committee of CAA and the China Auction magazine jointly. The "Award of Commission Capacity" is the honor for the top 5 Chinese auction houses who received the highest amount of commission from sales in 2016. As for the "Award of Top 10 Excellence", it is an comprehensive award which generated from a comprehensive comparison among the growth rate, turnover rate, settlement rate, commission rate, the competent business profit margins, per capita profitability and other indicators of the forefront commission-receiving auction enterprises.

 

 

These awards represent the hard working of auction houses. As one of the most influential contributors to China’s auction market, Holly's has witnessed the evolution of China’s fine art industry, and promoted this process significantly. Since receiving the investment from INFORE HOLDING, Holly’s transformed and entered a new phase. Holly’s auction categories-including Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, Contemporary Art, Porcelain, Jade and Artware, Jewellery and Watches, Gram Reserve & Invigorant-are gradually showing their characteristics and the total turnover maintains a 10% annual growth rate. In Holly’s 2017 Spring Auction, the total sale is over RMB 550 million .

Over the last 23 years, Holly’s has organized more than one thousand auctions, including several “original” feature auctions among Southern China and even the entire China. Meanwhile, Holly’s has created, rewrote and is still holding the highest single sale record and turnover record of artwork auctions in Southern China. In the 1995 Spring Auction, Holly’s held the first “Chinese painting and calligraphy of Ling Nan experts” auction; in July 1995, Holly’s launched the first “Sunday Auction” in Southern China, which later became the Holly’s Treasure Hunting Auction and plays an important role in promoting the artwork market; in the very first auction in 1994, Holly’s (then known as Guangzhou China Guardian) brought 45 masterpieces of Qi Baishi, Huang Binhong, Fu Baoshi, Xu Beihong from overseas. It is the first “back-flow” of oversea Chinese artworks that took place in Chinese auction houses. That auction has created a national record of Chinese painting and calligraphy auction with a total sale of RMB 15 million and the highest sell-through rate of 88.6%.

Recently, Holly’s focuses on introducing special auctions with clear academic context and distinctive features, and has organized several “small but fine” auctions-on one hand, reduces the number of works, on the other hand, improves the quality and returns to the exquisite auction style. In the 2016 Spring Auction, in the context of Ling Nan culture and in order to promote life aesthetics, the “Cantonese Mansion” special auction emerged and attracted huge attention from peers and medias. In the autumn sales of the same year, Holly’s introduced the “Classical Chinese Painting and Calligraphy” and the “Important Works of Zhang Daqian and other Major Painters” auctions, both of which has achieved an impressive result.

In 2014, Holly’s “Chinese Portrait Works of Jin Shangyi” auction, whose sell-through rate is 100%, was widely commended. In the 2017 Spring Auction, Holly’s obtained the a series of artworks by Guan Liang’s from famous entrepreneur, philanthropist and collector Huang Qingxin. 42 pieces of Guang Liang’s works were all sold in “The Romance of Chinese Opera-Collection of Guan Liang From Huang Qingxin” auction. Works in this auction includes Guang Liang’s iconic opera characters and rare collections like color-ink landscape and still-life, which are “new faces” to Chinese auctions. “The Romance of Chinese Opera” indicates the deep friendship of Guan and Huang, while playing an important role in back-tracing Guan’s art career. One of those works-Drunk Li Taibai Writing Calligraphy-was sold with RMB 7.935 million, achieved the highest price within that auction. Besides, works Drunken Beauty and Opera Characters had also attracted huge attention.

Meanwhile, “Jingguan-Jingguan-The Ancient Statues” auction, the first Buddha statue auction in South-east China, has been held for the 7th time. This special auction sorts out the massive knowledge system of Buddhism, presents figures from different dynasties, eras and areas. It is widely approved while its turnover is gradually rising. In Holly’s 2017 Spring Auction, a series of Himalayan statues in “Jingguan” were included in Himalayan Art Resources, which indicates the new stage of this special auction.

In recent years, Holly’s focuses on improving the quality of auctions of different categories, explores more feature auctions while its major categories stick to antique and artwork. In 2009, Holly’s introduced the first antique wine and spirits auction in China, which was quite successful. Other “original” auctions, such as famous invigorant and aged pu’er, obtained high popularity as soon as they were launched.
